I’m thinking about owning a sports card store but am curious with things like E-bay if it could be successful?

It’s always been my dream to own my own sports card and sports memorabilia store. I’m actully a Methodist Minister so I would own it and purchase the inventory but wouldn’t be 100% involved in the day to day operations. I am just curious if in an age of technology and E-bay and other online auctions if it would have a good chance to be successful. I live In New Jersey about 30 miles outside of New York City. But if anyone owns a sports card shop or knows of anyone near them and how they’re doing financially, I would really appriciate it. Thank you.

In my personal opinion, I think you would have to involve a lot more then just sports cards. Two of my friends used to own a hobby shops which concentrate on sports card back atleast 10 yrs ago. One of them is very successful and the other one didn’t make it. One major reason is the successful one got an interest in the cards….that was his passion and hobby…..the one who failed looked at it from a business point of view. With the internet going on, it should be helpful for your business, keep in mind, you can post you inventories too. I would definitely involve a web site. people around the world will be able to purchase from you….Good luck with your work…
