I am going to a sports memorabilia signing what should I take?

yp_veronica_chicago asked:

I am attending, for the first time, a Fan Fest for my favorite major league baseball team. What are the best items to get autographed AND if its bats or baseballs, what type exactly?

official league (american or national) baseballs. easier to carry around than bats. keep them in plastic bag and put in your purse or something. one autograph per ball.

Go buy a new, cheap bat or ball and have them sign that. If you have a bat or ball from an actual major league game, that may be good to use to. But really it’s the signature that’s the important thing, and a brand new bat or ball will be a good display for it, rather than a dirty ball or a beat-up bat. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive new bat or ball. The name is the important thing. If you can get the whole team to sign a ball, that would be good too. Imagine having a ball signed by the entire 2004 Boston Red Sox team! You can also bring a cap and have them sign under the brim, a plastic batting helmet, a photo (preferably a professional photo) of the player doing the signing. I probably wouldn’t use a baseball card, unless the player is not that famous or a superstar. A signature on a top-line card actually ruins the value. So having Willie Mays sign a Willie mays cars actuallly brings the value of the card down. Cards are supposed to be kept in as near mint condition as possible.

Try and get information on who is going to be there. Then possibly look and see if you have any of their sports cards or photos in good condition. If not I would suggest purchasing a few of their cards, photos, balls if they are players you like.

Also have you camera to get photos to show that this is a legit signature.

    Get wooden unstained bats
    White, Hard, New Baseballs
A Jersey of a player (if you have it)
    Team Hats
Maybe a book written by one of the players or managers (if you can)
    Photo of the team
Program from one of last years games

don’t use a sharpi on a baseball because in 5 or so years the ink will soak into the ball and become unreadable. If you want to get a Jersey or bat signed a Black Sharpi or a Gold or silver paint pen will work.
