How has the bad economy effected the trading card and sports memorabilia industry?

Tommy12oz asked:

I stooped collecting almost two years ago when pricing for packs of cards were getting out of control. So for anyone out there who is still collecting have prices on current and past cards come down dramatically? I am thinking maybe its a good time to start picking up some older tops baseball cards if they are cheaper now

What makes a particular item popular as a collectible at any given time?

babie_boomah asked:

Thirty years ago everyone wanted Depression glass. Now you can’t give it away. People that come to my tag sales are now asking for sports or military memorabilia, coins, comic books and old fishing lures. Why are these such hot collectibles now?

Value of these sports memorbillia?

Mike asked:

Alright I have a few cool sports memorabilia so tell me the rough value of them..

1. Autographed L.A. Kings Wayne Gretzky jersey - good condition

2. Autographed Wayne Gretzky and Magic Johnson poster - not so great condition

3. Autographed basketball by the whole 1992 U.S.A nation basketball team.. has MJ, Scotty Pippen, David Robinson, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley and more - Awsome condition

I dont have any more information on these.. please give me a rough idea of what they might be worth.

Also I have a few packs of early 80s baseball cards. None are that good but I have a few in their packaging. Do you think I should open them up or leave them as it is.. I’m afraid that there might be a good rookie card I don’t have a clue about.

Does anyone know how to get sports memorabilia for cheap to use in a fundraiser?

Johnny asked:

We are running a golf outing to support the local little league in NY and wanted to do an auction at the dinner. Does anyone have any experience with this in obtaining items in a cost effective way so we can maximize what we make on them?

How to tell if old memorabilia/misc. stuff is worth anything?

Anne S asked:

We are going through our basement and have all sorts of old items (i.e. board games, puzzles, figurines, sporting equipment, etc.) Before we throw them out, we want to make sure that they are not valuable. Do you have any recommendations on how to decide what to hang on to for now? Any good websites?

Thank you!

What should the Brown/Goldman family do with OJ Simpsons sports memorabilia if turned over to them in court.

#2people asked:

If OJ’s sports memorabilia is turned over to the Brown/Goldman family as a result of their civil suit over Ron Goldman and Nicole Browns murder, what should they do with the items? I believe that they should publicly burn his hall of fame certificate and any other tangible trophies or awards he has ever received. ill buy that on Pay Per View. Does anyone else agree or have a better idea?
